Hi everyone again. I'm in look of a new transformer since my old lionel transformer died yesterday. I was wonder if anyone had the Z-4000 transformer and how does it work and all. You know, all the little details that maybe important. I heard from some people that when they would put their older locomotives on that the transformer may over heat and burn out the engine. I certanly do not want to do that to my 40 year old NYC steamer that I have. If anyone has had this problem let me know because that is the only thing that is stopping me from buying the Z-4000. Thanks!

I've got one, as well as the DCS system as well.
Works great for me. Plenty of power to run my trains. Especially those long, lighted passenger trains!
Have never heard of the Z-4000 destroying older locomotives. In case of a short, the overload trips before anything is harmed.
Personally, I find it better, safer than the old Lionel power supplies. But, that's JMO.

Thanks Keith. I thought it would be kinda funny if MTH would not have already fixed the problem if it had a problem in the first place. I figured the Z-4000 had a overload trip circuit and I hope they tested old locomotives when they build the thing. The only thing that worries me is that the newer locomotives have the CAN motors in them where as the older ones have the older style fan type motor. I'm not sure what my 57 year old Marx steamer has in it but I dont know if it can take all that power. I never tested it on anything to powerful. Thanks again for your comment Keith. I'm going to be away in San Diego for a couple of days so I might not be near a computer to answer any more replies if any come in to this topic. I hope to get a ride on the Coaster Train while I am over there. Anyways discuss it when I get back. See you all later.
