I don't have access to an MTL turnout but is it possible to mount the external solenoid upside down? I see that the solenoid 'hooks' the nub coming out the side so was hoping that I could still couple to it upside down, maybe with a little extended plastic. This would help hide them.

    Post pix if you can.

Mr. Smith was kind enough to make a tutorial about mounting them completely underneath.

As far as simply flipping them over, it too will take a little modification. The solenoids are made to fit against the angled road bed. When you flip them over, they cant get close enough to engage the turnout mechanism nub. I'm not even sure if you can get them onto the posts that hold them in place for the same reason. Unfortunately, I dont have any extra turnouts to photograph, but I did unsuccessfully try to flip one without modification a few years back.

I have done it, I had to trim a bit off of the circuit board back and a few other places. You just have to see ow it all kind of fits together and trim the parts that you need a little bit at a time. If I can do it with my fat fingers, anyone else can too. I just dont rember if I had to change out a left for a right. I will play around with it tonight

Thanks all. The local shop was out of stock so I'll get a pair in a week. Is rather use the off-the-shelf solenoid as I can drive that and it's 'tiny' rather than adapting a large motor like Cobalt or Tortoise.

I still a some of Peter Wrights turnouts but planning some other models so will use the MTL turnouts from these (and modules I start for others).
