I was thinking - I wonder if there are any module standards (like freemo, ntrack, etc) that have multiple track levels? Mainline plus a highline or branchline at an elevation. Any modules with elevation changes? I was thinking of designing my new layout for 1. Expansion 2. Portable - I'm active duty AF so I WILL be moving at some unknown point. 3. Possible rearangment (ie the "Beer Line") - this one not as much.

Only issue is I like elevation changes, bridges, tunnels, etc. Just tossing it out there for ideas.

From a club standpoint it seems you would have to have very coordinated planning of the modules. For home I don't see why not. I'm not trying to connect with anybody else anyway!

N-Trak has standards for track above or below the three mains. The mountain division on my two modules are 3-1/8" above the mains (railtop to railtop). I don't know what the grade standards are for getting a track from the main levels up to the mountain dividion, but i'm sure there is one.

Free-moN standards indicate track elevation as nominal and minimum height of rail head from the floor shall be 50 inches. On modules with grades the maximum height of the rail head shall be 62 inches above the floor and the elevation of the high end shall be some multiple of 3/4 inch above the low end.

I am currently building a free mo-N module which is 16' in length, split into 4 modules. The area modelled is the Alray tunnels (BNSF Cajon sub) before day-lighting. I have a grade of about 3%, maybe a little more. The track height at the transition of the 2 - 6' modules is 50" at the high point and 48.5" at the low point.

    How is that for you?

Harold, I do look forward to running my Daylight and freight through your modules.

I am also a member of the IP FreemoN and eventually plan to build the Colton crossing and extending the modules over toward the Colton yard including the Palmdale cutoff up and over the 10 freeway. Its a ways off though.

The main requirement in freemo is that the ends of the module or set of modules are at the 50" required track hight. This means you will have to plan for both grades, up and down. The best way in my opinion is to team up on it so one guy does not have to create half a dozen modules on his own. Then again one can design the scenery to drop from grade to add bridges and such.
