Well after a couple more changes this is the final layout. The track outline has been marked so now on to the roadbed! This first picture shows where the mill will be. The boxes and styrene base on the left are the mill outline and the bases on the right will be the loading sheds and the box/specialty mill. There is a double track through here and the spur you see to the left is the log unloading track. This is a overview of the layout. To the right is the start of the Lewiston yard, the spur in the middle is the line to Potlatch and the future paper mill. The large open space closest to you is where the roundhouse, turntable, and engine re-fueling/sanding tower will be.
Well it has been quite a while since a update was made so here's a quick overview. First picture shows a overview of the 2'x8' module. Heres a shot down the layout. Here's the area with most the track laid. I am using Woodland Scenics foam roadbed and Atlas Code 55 track. I am also going to be using either Caboose Industries Ground Throws or Blue Point manual under-table switch machines, depending on location. And here is the first test engine on the track!
Off Topic: Micro Engineering Tall Steel Viaduct Off Topic: How do you like the Micro Engineering Tall Steel Viaduct? Is this a plastic kit and does it come with the appropriate track (tie spacing and what code is it)? Thanks in advance!
To be honest I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Only reason I already bought it was I knew I would need it down the road, and I found it at a great price.
Well I've got all the track laid and tested up to the yard now. Here is the double track running by where the mill will be. Here is a shot going down the layout from where the yard will be.
Mountain behind the mill is just about done. Decided to put a train on the tracks to see how the scene would look.
Well got most of the plaster down, just need to do some final fills and then lay down some smooth it for the road area. Construction on the sawmill is going to start next, as well as the corner of a mill pond.
NIevo You have got some great work going on there. It makes me want to get out in my room and start throwing down some plaster as well!!! Mike
Here's the mill area. The pink foam is the edge of the log pond. I am starting on the kitbashing of a Walthers Sawmill next.
Your work looks great. I was wondering why you bought curved sectional track insted of flex. But keep up the good work. This is making me want to start my modules after 5 years.
Down the road I will be using mostly flex track, there are several pieces used already for the long sweeping curves toward the end. I just happened to have a bunch of sectional that I thought I would use up.
Wow, haven't updated this in a while. Not much has happened on the layout itself. I've been mainly collecting rolling stock and working on a few projects, work has been taking most of my free time. I have however gone from 2 pieces of rolling stock when I started this thread to 20+ engines and 300+ rolling stock! Here you can see a log train rolling out, the lumber mill progress, and 3 engines I had custom painted and am super-detailing.
Unfortunately not, I am still collecting rolling stock and motive power but the layout has gone nowhere. We are trying to move to a bigger house and between my full time job and my eBay selling I have about 15min of free time a day right now. Hopefully sometime next year I will be able to get back into things.
Nlevo, it looks great so far, but I have one question about the plan...Where is the Nezperce Railroad? the Bachmann 44 tonnerwould be a close fit, and would give you a great chance for interaction with a second (third?) railroad
