I've been working on this during the week, it's got a bunch of my UK pics from the old Photopoint site, plus a bunch more new ones added.

    Here's the link...

Don't know if I can post direct, but here goes:

Here's a pic from Monday, one of Wessex's "Barbie" class 150 units leaves Exeter Central for Exmouth...

Nice art work on those units.

Am wondering if you folks have the same problems as we do, with idiots and cans of spray paint?

You have a really good looking site there Martyn. The only problem I found was that it is extremely slow loading. Is that a server problem, or are thousands of people looking at once? :D I am on broadband, so it is not my end.

Martyn - I had no problem with slow loading and I am on cable broadband here in California. I do have a question for you. What is a "Stoneblower" used for. The only thing I might compare it to would be a ballast regulator with sweeper brushes to clean the right of way after a surfacing project.

Martyn, very nice site. I tried earlier and had the slow load syndrome. Just now it loaded quickly. Just one comment from this one dimensional railfan--you need MORE STEAM. The whole world needs more steam. :D

This is my second stop by here. Am on a phone modem. Both times, it loaded up quickly. No problems.

Not so much out here "in the country", but they do in some area's, but these are meant to look like that! :D Maybe the idea is to make them think they've done it already!

The scenes are photo's printed on a vinyl which is stuck to the train, on the 150's each of the trains has different pictures relating to different area's that Wessex serve, the one in the picture above has Southampton themed graphics.

I believe it's like a normal tamper, but instead of just vibrating the ballast back into position it sucks it up, align's the track and blows the ballast back into place around it.

    Martyn,

That is an excellent site, does fotopic actually create the page format for you?

Yes, there are a few basic formats in terms of colours and arrangement, then you can add a background and title of your own to customise it. Mine is just one of their defaults with a title gif added.

They then sort of have a "tick sheet" of which extra boxes you want included on the page and you can set the "top pictures" boxes to work on daily/weekly/monthly/all time and so on.

You can select wether you want folk to be able to buy prints, or right-click copy, (or not) so you can protect the pics to some extent if you want to.

A drawback compared with the late lamented photopoint is that there isn't much choice in sorting things, both the pictures within the collections, and the collections themselves. I'm making myself get into the habit of now saving the filenames with the unit number first so it will sort them in a reasonable order (compare the sorting of the later class 66 gallery with the early Wessex Trains one and you'll see what I mean.)

On the whole i'm liking it. I'd heard about these folk a while back, but had been put off by my Photopoint experience (creating a site of almost 500 pics and then having the host company go bust on you...) but I think it's time to give it a go. There's 250mb to start with and it's free too, at least at the moment, and they sound amenable to adding space if you want it. (I'll shut up now, i'm starting to sound like an advert! )

I'll work on that! [IMG] More steam is never a bad thing, I need to re-scan the one picture that's there anyhow, and I need to re-work a couple to the right file sizes and such. Some preservation shots (steam and diesel) may well appear at some point as well.

Ref the loading times, as a UK based site it probably does slow down at a somewhat different time to the US ones, it was slow for me updating a couple of things last night, but it's quick at the moment...

Thanks for the link and the explanation. Happy to be able to learn something new.
