Hi guys, This is my first (i think) post on the Trainboard forums. I thought I'd post some photos of my weathered b30-7 that I recently completed. It was my first locomotive weathering attempt with an airbrush. I've used an paintbrush on a steamer before, and that turned out "all-right". http://mikewalsh.dns2go.com/images/ho/5490/5490.html I used a Paasche airbrush, and a number of floquil colors.. Notably engine black, grimy black, weathered black, mud, rust, earth... i think that's it, but might be wrong. I Just browsed through railpictures and looked for old photos of BN locomotives, notably the b23's, b30's and c30's. Photos of B30's are hard to come by, so I just kind of thought about where what colosr would show up... and followed suit. Hope you enjoy it. Mike Walsh
Nice loco Mike And you couldnt have picked a better road to do As the BN only aquired 8 of them from the Frisco I guess they wasnt that common a sight. There are a few photos of them on trainpix. And welcome to Trainboard!
It looks good, Mike! Airbrush weathering gives a little different "texture" or "feel" to it than dry brushing or chalk. I don't do much air brush weathering but I need to. If nothing else it gives some variation on the layout. BTW, Jon Grant is an HO scale weathering guy, too. He just finished this thread. Wolfgang Dudler is another one for weathering. Welcome to TB, too. Your post here on a "How to" subject is most welcome.
Welcome to the TRAINBOARD; Mike. With weathering you can hardly do mistakes. Thank you, Flash. Wolfgang
Welcome Mike! Nice loco, whos the make? Just a little FYI the LS&I railroad in Marquette, MI had the old BN C30-7's and those may give a good weather pic, this is the road I do in HO
Steven: I would think there is something about your preferences or login that prevents you from seeing the images. I would just make sure you are logged in. Other than that, I will have to get more help.
Those images are hosted on Geocities. Usually that site blocks remote calls for images. I can see them for some reason but perhaps some cannot. Hosting images on sites like that is a bad idea generally. Charlie
IIRC Atlas is the only firm offering B30-7s in HO, including a Frisco model. Sound is even offered in the so-called Gold Series.
Sorry fellas. My dad forgot to update the subscription on the server at home this past week amid all the activities. We are working on it. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y127/deafmike/3.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y127/deafmike/2.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y127/deafmike/1.jpg Here are the same photos, posted on a different server (external linking-friendly) Regards, Mike
