Have you tried searching in 1:144 scale military stuff for a helicopter? I'm sure one's bound to turn up.

    Good Luck.

I've seen some, but I don't recall. "Tiger something" is floating around in my mind, but I just don't quite finish the thought.

If you find anything you could post a link here.

Although hard to find in the USA... there is a candy company in Japan named Furuta which has several series of miniature aircraft (and other stuff) which it puts into a product called "Choco Eggs". These aircraft are not to scale, however, several of the WWII single engine aircraft are very close to N scale. They also have some helicopters... particularly a Huey... which is close to N scale. It is ingenious how they fit these little planes in the plastic 'egg'. They are essentially kits of about 5 to 10 pieces which snap together. Try eBay... search 'Furuta airplane'

Also here in europe, we have "Kinder eggs" witch are the same concept, I dunno if they have ever done N scale aircraft, but I know they did some N scale-ish construction equpiment, and some cars that have been somewhere between HO and N scale.

What kind of Heli are you looking for?

Dave N found a Huey from a Japanese source.

Also, the Wings of War game (an offshoot of Axis and Allies) has WW1 and WWII military aircraft that are close. I think the WWI planes are 1:144 and the WWII are 1:200 but they both seem a little closer to N than that.

Dragon Models offers a UH and SH-60 in 1:144
Revell offers an AH-64D Longbow in 1:144

While digging around, Testors offers a 1:130 scale C-130, that could be interesting in the right setting.

Lot of good stuff here already, but I wanted to add. I collect allot of 1:144 scale vintage aircraft, and one of my favorite manufactures is "Corgi" diecast. They have allot of 1:144 scale aircraft, civilian as well as military aircraft.

    Try this one in Germany:

    Produktpalette - DM-Toys

They have listed several types of helicopters ("Hubschrauber" in German)

Might this be the Huey... ???

Here's the Furuta Choco-Egg UH-1b Huey Helicopter I mentioned earlier. My best guess... by measuring the rotor diameter... is that this is about a 1:180 scale model. Not real close to N scale... but could be a good background model to create a 'forced' perspective.

Try minifigs.com - they have several n-scale military helicopters that look great on my layout.

Yes, I did pick up a 1/144 Huey kit a few years ago, not the one shown though, the one I found was a UH-1N model (twin engine, more modern version) that I plan on painting up into Kern County Fire colors like the one they have at the helipad at Rowen in the Tehachapi's.

I ordered it from Hobby Search in Japan, and it's a nice kit. I dont' see it on their site now, but here's a link, looks like they've got a CH-47 coming out soon....

Poke around their site and see what you can find.

If you can find them, the Micro Machine line from several years ago had some very close to N helicopters and cars too for that matter. Might try eBay. I've one Micro Machine helicopter on my Micro layout. Looks like it was made for it. Also have some of the Dick Tracy Micro Machine cars. Really neat N scale or close enought that I'll not worry about it.

Revell make some small Mini-kits and they have a BK117 in police markings which makes a perfect Lifeflight chopper scale is about 1/155

To be quite honest with you, anything outside of 1/144 is going to be toy like, less precise and out of scale in one way or another. The German 1/160 scale Helicopters would probably be the exception. I understand that you want to retain 1/160 purity in your diorama, but no one would know the difference. The variance between 1/144 and 1/160 is very, very slight. I'd go with the 1/144 which would make your hunt much easier.

If you're still looking, I've just seen a news sheet from OSBORN'S MODELS in Bideford, Devon. Among the new items is a plastic kit, 1:144 scale, of the Sea King Helicopter. It's mainly in RAF and RN markings, but there is a Belgian version as well. It says the parts are gray or clear, for painting as you wish. The decals vary. UK price is 11GBP.

    Osborns Models

EDIT: To translate, Sea King in Canadian = CH124. I believe the US version is the H3, but I'm not sure on that.

    Regards,

    Pete
