Can anyone point me to a small simple n scale trackplan that features a coal mine? I prefer one without the proverbial spaghetti bowl that seems to dominate small N scale plans. Door sized with a single track main would also be ideal. I'm at work and don't have a lot of time to search. What little searching I've done has turned up very little.

The Orin Line was the first thing that sprang to my mind too. Very nice compact layout.

I designed this layout to fit a 36" x 96" door. It uses 15" radius Unitrack curves and # 6 switches. If you blow it up you will see the Kato part #'s ....Mike

    One try for fun

    Hello coachc,

I just tried to give a N scale Door sized plan for you. Door size 96"x36".
Minimum curves 15" radius. No grades. All turnout are #6 Atlas code 55 switches. A scenic devider (green line). A company town. A village near to the yard and interchange area. two briges. three tunnels (no spaghetti bowl !!!). big Mine tiple with 3 load tracks and a run around. The main lines are red and the branchline is pink.
Maximum train length at station/depot passing siding about 48" which should result into a train of a SD9 diesel, caboose and at least 16 55t open hopper cars for mine operation.
a little industry is there too.
and here you may find the plan of that
    N-scale Mine plan.jpg
Perhaps this an idea you want to use for your plans.
The run around track at the mie has a capacity of about 14 55t USRA hopper cars.

Thanks for all the replies! I like the simplicity of Mike's plan because what I need would basically be for running trains and practicing modeling. I do like the operating potential of Scope's plan though. That is a great trackplan, Scope! I also like that HO Pond Creek plan. Thanks again for all the replies. I had forgotten about the appalachian railroading site. Those other websites are good too. I had not seen those before.

Here's a variation on Mike's simple loop, just to add to the mix.
