Hello everyone , Just have a question of who makes a decent signal with a 2 or 3 aspect target, or those used throughout most of the Eastern U.S.? I have seen Kato's and Brawa's, but those are far too unrealistic for my liking. Can anyone suggest who makes the best looking prototypically correct signal that can be made operable? Thanks and have a good one, Justin May
I actually made my own signals and level crossing signals. go to my site and have a look at my pictures page also some of my other pages have pics. Signals are not too difficult to make and cheaper than buying. Hope this is of help to you Colonel ------------------ http://members.optusnet.com.au/~pcassar/index
A friend bought some searchlight signals for his SP layout, they were by Sunrise Enterprises, I think. But work out a bit too expensive for me. I made all my own signals when I was in HO scale, and they are not difficult, so I plan to make some in N when a lot of the basic layout construction work is done. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
I think that the BEST looking N scale block signals are the ones made by Sunrise. Yes, they are a bit pricy but are worth it! They come in kits but are real easy to make. I use them on my module and lighted them with fiber optics. They look GREAT! ------------------ Craig Martyn BLMA(best looking models around) Custom painting and detailing
For an eastern U.S. signal you might want to try New Jersey International's signals. They'll be pricey if you need a lot of them though. They have individual signal heads if you want to put together your own signal bridges. Also, they also have the Pennsy position signals (which will work for N&W as well). You'll have to jump up to HO if you need their B&O position lights (unfortunately). The cheapest option is to build your own. In one of the last few issues of Model Railroading there is an article on building your own dwarf signals. It's for HO, but the principles may apply to N as well. I've always thought the Sunrise signals were based on a western US prototype (WP, NP, or SP). Look Ahead, Look South
Justin May, I use signals by Sunrise and Jay. There is a photo of each on my website in the section "N-Scale". I like them both but Sunrise has the best. These are used with the Logic Rail "Animator" which give the three color change indicators. I don't chose to build my own, 'tho I may build a brass signal bridge because no one makes one that I desire. ------------------ Keep on Track'N Harold Riley www.phcomputing.com
A very old thread, found with Google. My question is: are there any N scale B&O signals available? It is 8 years later since the last reply, so maybe I have missed something in those 8 years. Or is there still not any good B&O signal? NJ International and Tomar offer the wrong signals or HO versions.
Bob: How is it possible that you have filled the major void in my soon to be built Erie Lackawanna layout? You did with those type D signals. Just bought a bunch from Tex and will definitely be needing more. And you sell the signal heads separately too!!! I love it when a plan comes together. Nice work Bob, I can't wait to get my hands on them. scott lupia
8 years after your post. I'd like to see your signals, especially what you use for the signal head in an N Scale searchlight. Can you post photo's please?
Why?????? Thanks for the link to the B&O signals. Nice items! Unfortunately, they are not this type of signal: http://www.trainweb.org/oldmainline/oml/077sig2.jpg
Atlas Model RR offers a realistic Road Signal with red, green and yellow aspects R-T-R. Here is the link: http://www.atlasrr.com/Trackmisc/nsignals.htm
I've got some Atlas signals to experiment with on one track of the club's Ntrak layout, they look good and the detection and logic circuits seem to operate well, though I haven't got around to installing them on the layout yet due to rearranging the layout to fit a different room. The only problem with them is the triangular arrangement of the lights which was only prototypical for a few roads, (someone might be able to tell us which ones, I think remember photos of them on NYC and IC), rather than the much more common vertical lights, they'll do on the club's generic Ntrak layout but would look out of place on my own ATSF layout.
"Why??????" Because all the old links are dead. "Thanks for the link to the B&O signals. Nice items! Unfortunately, they are not this type of signal: http://www.trainweb.org/oldmainline..., the Atlas Type G, position signals or what?
