Still don’t have bears, but I have the dock, boat, fishermen and hiker so I guess I can about finish the module. I poured the water after a mess of a time getting the color right. I know that green and orange make brown so a couple drops of green made the resin… well green. Then 2 drops of orange and I’m expecting a brownish color… nope I get orange flat out orange. Ok… so a few more drops of green… still orange only a bit darker. So next 2 drops of black and bingo I get a brownish color that could be used in a lake. I’m going to put just a bit more “water” on the top that is tinted slightly green to simulate the algae. That next layer is going to “glue” the boat and dock in place.

    Enjoy the pics.

The module looks great! The people and animals will bring it to life.

Just a quick update. The final layer of water is down, tinted a dark green that the camera just doesn’t pick up, but it looks good in person. The boat and dock are in place. People are next.

The water looks really good but in the photo it looks clear rather than tinted. I've taken photos where the camera did not pick up colors correctly so I believe it looks greenish brown in person. You are doing an excellent job on this module.

I did the water in 2 layers and the first layer is the deeper layer and it is brown, and the top layer is thin but it was darker green to simulate algae. The effect looks good in person but, yes you are right, it's clear on camera. Next time I do water in layers like this I am going to try and paint some fish in between the layers to, well, simulate fish. Some small silver dots should do the trick.

Corner #3 is getting a name now, imma call it “Camping Corner”. And the pics below will show why. There is only one camp ground on the scene but still. The gravel area will be the lake, I will be experimenting with “fish” in this pour. The fish are going to be attempted in 2 different methods, the first is aluminum filings from a hack saw, the second will be little silver paint dots. We will see which one looks better.

Glue solution is wet and drying, it will look better tomorrow, or the next day. After that I will glue the people in place.

Camping corner got its water, but I can’t make it deep enough for the planned fish. No big deal, fish at a later date.

Corner #4 has a plan, it has supplies ordered and will feature kids and corn stalks. Any ideas as to it’s theme?

Ok Train Wreck and Camping corner are done, well minus the bear, but I will just have to wait another day or so for that. These are ready for trains! Next up is the overpass corner which is coming along, I need to sand the drywall mud to get the road sorted, and I sprayed the concrete with a concrete color. I will do the bridge in the same color tomorrow. Here are the final pics (till I get the bear) of the modules.

Beautiful work, and well composed photos. Of course the beautiful layout scenes help a lot!

Close-up photos typically have very shallow depth of field (the range of distance from the camera that is in focus). Your camera may allow some control over that (choose longer F/ratios, say f/11, f/16, or a longer exposure time to force them), or you can supply more light (outdoors in daylight, even overcast, works well.) Depending on the lighting and a slow shutter speed to get the depth of field desired, you may need a tripod or other stable base for the camera.

Sometimes very shallow depth of field, with accurate, selective focusing, can blur the foreground and background, and draw the viewer's the eye to to the subject. It can be tricky, but very effective.

Had I been using my DSLR I would have done my best to get everything in focus as I have a lot more control than I do on my phone. I know there are settings on the phone to change the shutter speed and f stop but it’s just too fiddly and I leave it in automatic mode.

I hear ya! Better to get the pic with your phone, than miss it while getting out the "big gun." For all the features and intelligence they put into the built-in camera on the phone, you'd think they could manage depth of field.
