Thanks the tedious stuff starts now. Hull portholes, bollards, bow winch, ventilation via grates and funnels and figuring out where from some photos to locate the lifeboats. And winding cable around those four drums. And of course a vessel name. Think it will be owned by ACME and named Wiley E. as in Coyote.

I got these hoppers at a train show for a five spot each. I come from a long line of farmers. Decided we needed to have some railcars. I have a dozen. Each number and letter was indivisually aplied.

I have just finished Teifs Wall Systems small manufacturer on my layout. This tower is a complex structure and I have left off many of the details. Still, I like the appearance and it will go well with my other structures. This view is away from the aisle! No visitor will ever see it. Why did I do that?

Anyway, it was a fun project to do.

Because, I am liable to show up with a mirror on the end of a telescoping wand that I use to inspect the back side of buildings. He, he, he.

Is that the same mirror I used to used to check behind toilets? Or the one the dentist used in my mouth. I hope it wasn't used for both. COL

Finally finished the 4000 HP deep sea rescue tug the Wile E. (as in Wile E. Coyote). The Coyote came into being in 1948 along with the Road Runner thus the mascot is in keeping with my timeframe. Styrene body built up over resin hull. Colors light gray and caboose red hull with some parts a dark gray or black.

Wile (the correct spelling without the Y on the end) is off my printer and graces both sides of the winch house.

Except for the flag and some minor dust off and paint touch up I can clear the workbench in time for the Christmas goodies. I hope.

    Really nice ship, John.

That's probably the most caboose red paint I have ever seen in one place.

And SP lettering gray for the upperworks and dark gray for the other items. And thanks all for the kind comments. Project started over a year ago when I was following a news story on a ship in trouble off Alaska and a storyline on the big rescue vessel based on the west coast that was enroute to get it. Managed to look up the vessel and thought then that it could make a nice addition to my proposed harbor scene. Found a nice website with lots of photos of all sorts of vessels like this that could be of use for folks for harbor scenes or ship building. http://www.captainsvoyage-forum.com/showthread.php/746-World-s-TUGBOATS There is like 49 or 50 pages of stuff in this site.

The vessel is backdated representing one of the first types that were spawned by the first off shore oil platforms in 1948. So the older bulkier cranes and old style radar antennaes in trying to keep the flavor of the late 40s and early 50s. So far I have managed to come up with three totally different vessels that aren't available as N scale kits or even in a scale close to that. However this is the last one of the larger vessels and the rest will be small fishing boats between 40 and 80 feet and some barges.
