Nice work so far! I've been helping build the ore docks (yes, there are two) that the first N Scale Edna G. will be sitting next to. It is going to be an awesome scene when it is done. Definitely a focal point for the DM&IR in Two Harbors, MN.
Nice job. Hope my thread came in handy. Before you apply decals I have some suggestions. IM me if interested
OK, I finally have something useful to put on here. I was at the bench last night and the Xacto knife with #11 blade rolled off the desk. This thing fell like a dart, point first, into the top of the right foot, then flopped onto it's side. What followed was a string of words that must have conjoured up something, because GF is looking at me funny and the cat won't even be in the same room with me, 18 hrs later !!! Once I calmed down (and replaced roof onto Train Room !!!) I made a 2 1/2" long cradle using Evergreen strips. It has a base that's about 3/4" wide. I took four 1/4" strips and formed a triangle on each side of the base. Knife will rest in the "valley" formed by the triangles. I'm going make a few more of these for when I have several sharp, pointy, gougy things layin' around. Next, I will put some kind of rubber foot on the bottom, and place thin rubber sheet in the valley. I may also fill in the triangle area with something to give them some weight. It was amazing how quickly I came up with this. I was still throwing my tantrum when I got the idea !!! OH !!! And those of you who are laughing, you have just been cursed with a power outage during your next ops session !!! Ha,ha,ha !!!
Got the bug to letter and weather some cars using my first ever dry transfers! Wow! I like these way better than decals!!!! Now to find more available..... Run8 - OWIE! Not jealous! Nice solution, tho.
WOW !!! Dry transfers in N ??? I've tried them on slot cars, HO box cars, and even the dashboard of my old 1:1 stock car (race car, NOT cattle car). They just don't like me !!! That is REALLY good !!! BTW- I don't remember exactly, but I don't think "owie" was one of the words I chose to use !!! Ha,ha,ha !!!
OWIE might not have scared the cat as bad!! The dry transfers are by Clover House, and I don't know of any other mfgr except WS.
I've been messing around in CAD and putting some of my skills to the test with 3D printing. I just got a few test models back: A hydraulic bumper, a staircase usable for underground train station platforms, and some wall segments
Reese , You know I love your work but IMHO that is one ugly cab. To me it looks like a caveman with a supraorbital ridge . Sorry , Mike Nice Job though!
nlaempire, Very nice 3D work. I have just the place for a similiar staircase if you ever go into production. Charlie
Charlie, if you have picture of the EXACT staircase you want, and actual measurements would be even better, I can build it in CAD for you. The 3D process isn't really cheap though, but nothing of exacting detail is. That one staircase is roughly $20 straight from the printer, which is pretty much more than I'm sure anyone would pay. I am trying to work the design a little, but the railing is too fragile to make a mold from. I am working out a system of textured "veneer" wall panels to just stick over balsa or foamboard to get a high detailed look fairly cheap. Honestly, it would be cheaper to hack up some of these kato station models and take the stairs off them. As for me though, it "has" to be as close to real world as I can make it.
Finished this C&O SD40 last night. No additional details on this one, just a basic strip, paint, and weather type of unit... The real unit looks like it got into a fight with several flour bags and lost. I went a little easier on it... Real one: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=88375 Brian
