I was just looking at the engines, not the cars. I see green, red stripe, tan/beige then red stripe again and green

It seems like once one project ends I start another. Here's NS 1072 (Illinois Terminal heritage engine) that I've been working on. This will be my second heritage unit that I've done and my third overall.

The real question is: What isn't on my workbench..........

Actually, this is organized chaos as I know exactly where I last placed a tool down, most of the time. I had some surgery last week that put a crimp in my activities, so I have been busy re-habbing my container train, finishing my Mexican RR train, building chain link fences for the refinery on the Southern New Mexico N Scalers layout. Trying to be productive ? ? ? Dr. said "no floor cleaning or mowing grass". Oh well !

New Athearn Challenger came in and conversion is underway from a Clinchfield version to a SP&S version. Due to the tender type decided to go with #910 one of the two Z-8s. Other than an oil bunk leaving the tender alone as the toolboxes in back of the stoker legs are cast on and just too danged much trouble to try and remove, replace styrene, and rivet lines.

All the parts on this are simply press fitted with pegs in holes so the parts pop off easily. Removed the airpumps from under the bandstand and am in the process of installing them on the smokebox front. Will simply apply some black paint to the number boards and renumber. Cab and class numbers will come off of both GN and NP steam decals with a SP&S football being added to the tender side. Pilot will get sheathed with thin styrene for the solid cast pilot of the Z-8. Have yet to trim the oil bunk seen to the right to fit.

Got the other air pump on and the oil bunk installed on the tender plus fabricated the solid pilot and also installed it. Just need now to relocate the class lights paint the pilot and decal.

Noticed that I managed to dislodge the front handrail staunchion in the photo. Back in place now. Finish up the painting tonight and decal tomorrow. As I had stated earlier these parts are just press fitted and easy to dislodge and lose.

Finished a few more projects this week... ;)

Weathered Norfolk and Western unit. I also got an all weather wondow on the conductor side, a new horn, and a bell in the correct spot on the long hood.

This Southern RS-1 looks better with the proper stripes and number boards installed:

Workbench stuff 001.jpg This workbench shot exemplifies what I call Model Railroading Mission Creep; some 25-odd years ago I started modeling SP&S (in N scale) and since then I've kind of branched out into GN, NP, then later BN and now dabble in NW shortlines like CORP, Chehalis Western, Washington Central...sometimes it seems like I don't know when to stop. Anyway, here's what I've been working on, in fits and starts, the last few weeks: an RS-3 and C-424 (I didn't paint the RS-3) BN renumbering; a couple of BN fuel tenders to go with my GP-50s and some Willamette Industries Evans boxcars just because I like the Northwest. I might get around to body-mounting MT couplers on the fuel tenders' frames tonight. Those cars are slightly modified Kato tankers - I just cut off all the extraneous frou-frou from the frames, lowered the domes and relocated the brake wheels.

I forgot to mention that the Z-8 is going to be one super-looking engine, Mr Moore! Fine work indeed. Regards...Bob

Nice Alcos. About 6 hours into decaling the 910 and still have the other side to do. Glasses, one Optivisor with two set of lenses, two strong lights, and I am still sqinting and crossing my eyes. Do like the sound on this loco though, dang but it is one nice loco.

Bobby, which tankcars did you use for the fuel tenders?
