I managed to finish the first Santa fe little 2-10-2 from the 1600 class from a bachmann 2-10-2. You will find the build for it in the upcoming ntrak steam addendum!

I have started work on a SP&S GP9. It will be #155 and I plan to paint it in the "tiger Stripe" scheme. I've added the horn and bell.

Hi John, Just curious what paint you are using and what color mix? I have three to paint that just got decoded and looking to match the new RS3s paint. Looking to forward to see the results.

    Thanks, Rick

    Hi Rick,
I am using Poly Scale - bought quite a bit when it was still available. I am using PRR Brunswick Green, lightened a little with Pullman Green. Basically some alchemy - just keep adding Pullman Green until it looks right. Not sure if I will paint the roof maroon or green. I have several flavors of maroon to play with and two more undec units. I plan to do one with a maroon roof.

Been working on the gallows frame. Here's what I've done the last few days. Added the shaft collar and the mine cage guides. Also, is a photo of the original showing two sheaves. Does anyone have any ideas of what I may be able to use? I am using the Grandt Line Cable Sheaves for the shaft, however, need something about half the size for the sheaves on the back of the frame.

Still working on the gallows frame. Just finished painting. Love what photos do. They allow you to see things that you wouldn't really notice. So, I'll do some more touchup such as areas that need some more color and missed areas as well as drips, etc... The frame was originally painted a red oxide color. There are still some places on the original that has some of the paint. I have a problem painting it red, so I chose a spice brown acrylic paint which gives it a reddish tint and the frame still looks like wood. The paint is brushed on to give it texture. Now for detailing. Power and communication cables. Steel flanges on some of the bents and adding the ore car cage. The cage will be scratchbuilt out brass. We'll see.

It's not so much what's on my workbench, it's that now I have a workbench!

Big enough to be useful (and well lit in the day time) yet small enough to keep things focused!

And it all cost $5 in screws and about four hours cutting and assembling.

Its just nice to get most of my stuff off the floor so I have room for a semipermanent layout now.

Also, the double desk feature will let the fiancee do her art work while I work on trains or RC in the same room, and we no longer have to vie for kitchen table space!

They have done a great job at the mining park. It's about a 3.5 mile walk if you take the marked trails. The best sight at the mining park is the Burro Tunnel. You get a good look down the stope. The mining park is well worth the time. Below is a photo of the burro tunnel as well as a pole I helped put up in 1973 when I worked for my dad. He managed the local cable TV company. Pretty cool that it is still there.

It's been awhile since I posted anything (done plenty of work though) since I've been pretty busy with travel due to work requirements. Had a few moments (actually a deadline) to knock out my brother's Xmas present before I left for the states last week. Used one of Reese's SD40-3 cabs to build this CSX SD40-3 (printed by Shapeway's). Also used his SD60E cab for NS 6920, but wasn't 100% happy with my build on that one, mostly due to the decals.

Also did a pair of SD38-2's from Mark 4 Design shells (understand he's closed up shop now due to his printer breaking):

Very nice collection of work, Brian. The Conrail patch job is, to my eye, especially neat for the prototype work-in-progress it represents.

Here is what I have on the bench right now. Been working on a Faller Greenhouse as well as and Atlas Storage facility. They have both been a joy to build. The Atlas kit , while very small, was a masterpiece of laser cutting and went together VERY well. The Faller plastic kit was easy but with some paint a very good looking addition to any scene. These will go in the small strip in the area I have been working on on the layout.
