I would like to find a Spectrum N&W aux tender in both the tuscan red and the black and yellow scheme. The only place that had the tuscan tender was Model Expo, and they are sold out. Nobody has any for sale and of course Walthers has none in stock. Where can these tenders be found? Will any more be made?
That's the old Bachmann tender, which was the excursion version. The Spectrum tender is the one that N&W used in the steam era (though the tuscan red is wrong). I haven't seen any of the black tenders in stores yet--haven't arrived yet--but Little Choo Choo Shop in Spencer, NC had some of the black/red tenders in the last time I was there. Kevin
Call the Train Station or Hobbyland in Columbus Ohio. They both had them last week, but if they are sold out they should be able to get more. I am sure they will be able to UPS them where ever you need them...PS both stores are first class stores, and will usually be able to get whatever you need.....Mike
Try the N&W Historical Society's website also. Their online shop has the aux. tenders. But they are not Spectrum, I can't remember off hand who makes them. But they are a tad pricey in my opinion. Jeff
Hey Jeff, I think what the hist. scoceity has are the resin kits that recently came out. Dont remember who makes them, but they should build into nice models. They are a bit expensive though, 60 bucks I think . Justin, The N&W and other roads used aux tenders to extend the distance between water stops. Most locos used a lot more water than coal and had to stop more frequently for water than coal. The N&W people were masters at making steam locos more cost efficient and the aux. tenders were one of the things that help steam last so long on the N&W .......Mike
