I'm working on a site for FURX/GCFX/CEFX rebuilds, and I'm getting conflicting reports on carbody types for some of these rebuilds. If some of you CP types (John?) can look at the site and tell me what carbodies are accurate (40 or 40-2) it would be appreciated. (For example, what were the CP 5500 series?)

    Thanks guys.

The 5500 series are 40-2s, saw them in Chicago daily. The way you can tell is the 40-2 have extra long porches due to being built on SD45 frames, I believe.

Actually there are four groups to CP's 5500 series. The first order in 1966, was for 32 SD40's - 5500 - 5531. The second order in 1966-67 was for 33 SD40's as well, 5532 - 5564. According to the 2001 Trackside guide we are down to 16 units of the original 65. Whe EMD/GMD came out with the SD40-2 line the number series began where the SD40 left off. An order in 1972 for 24 units, 5565 - 5588, and another for 40, 5589 - 5628. As well through the 80's there were three wreck rebuilds. In '81 - 5560, in '83 - 5584, and in '85 - 5583.

I used to see the 5565 and above (40-2s) on the IHB regularly.
