    Hi All,

I am having real trouble "seeing" how to install LED's for the front and rear of my new Athearn Gas Turbine. I have removed the existing "bulbs" from the front and rear, and have installed my sound speakers. All that's left is getting these lights installed and adjusting CV's. The decoder is QSI's Revolution "U" 5050-481. The decoder comes as a 9 pin socket or an 8 pin socket....I was going to use the 9 pin which is split with P1 and P2. I've been told different ways how to install the LED's, even with the 8 pin. What I can't see is where these Blue, White, and Yellow wires come from to attach to the LED's. Do I cut them or cut into them from the 9 pin socket, or do I use the altered color wires on P2??

Ulrich makes a kit I can buy that will solve all this, but before I shell out another $45 (with tax and freight), I would rather try doing this myself using the 3 volt LED's I have along with 1K resistors. I am comfortable soldering to LED's and resistors. But I just don't see it....

Thanks for any advice to the blind man.

If you have an 8 pin harness, plug it into the 8 pin socket. Now use the blue wire (12 volt) the White wire (front light),the Yellow wire (rear light).

The blue, white and yellow wires are connected to a female "plug" at the other end of the 8 pin harness. Are you saying I need to "cut" each of these 3 wires off from the plug end and then connect them to the LED's?
I just want to be absolutely sure before I do that. I have everything else I need to make this work. Thxs.

I recall when I used an 8 pin decoder in my RTR GP35, the pads that the headlights were originally soldered to provided the power. take a voltimeter after the decoder has been installed and figure out which one is the common and which actually powers the light.

I had seen a photo or two of your install and I did not see a 8 pin plug or socket.
What I am saying is to use a harness that has an 8 pin plug (male) and plug it into the 8 pin socket (female) on the original light board. Then use the blue, white and yellow for your lights.
I just finished up a unit just like this and I took the original light board completely out. I used a SoundTraxx Tsunami TSU-1000 decoder. So my install was a bit different than yours.
I have NOT seen the new QSI decoder so I don't know what they come with as for plugs or plug in’s and harnesses.
Don't cut untill you are clear as to what is what.

Still need help installing LED's in Athearn Gas Turbine

Does anyone have the Athearn Gas Turbine? If so, let me know if you wired it for LED's. I will send you a request for help with understanding how to install LED's using the existing 8 or 9 pin connectors. Thanks.
