What is the best way to remove decals from a brand new loco please, I do not fancy ruining it. I would like to add my own to it when I have these removed. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Johan and welcome to Trainboard. In answer to your question I use Polly S Easy-Lift-Off. It is a paint and decal remover. The instructions for decals are: Apply directly to decal and lift off with brush. Wash area with mild soapy water. Allow to dry and re-decal as desired. I purchased this Easy-Lift-Off at a local hobby shop. I am sure there are other products that will do the job. Just ask your hobby shop.
Johan, if this is a factory painted locomotive as in Atlas, or Athearn, you may run into a problem because the print will be a tampo. I've always used a few dabs of Solvaset and a pencil eraser.
I used alcohol to remove the numbers off an Atlas B23-7, about 5 days ago, the paint was a lttle marred (not enugh to hurt) but the numbers came off like nothing!, after renumbering, and some light weathering, it lookeed better then it was when I got it at the Hobby Store!
I'm glad this has been brought up, I have to "De-BNSF-Bandit" my Santa Fe Yellowbonnets that I Bandited six months ago. I wish I had seen this coming, then I wouldn't have to mess with it know.
I use the Polly-S ELO (Easy-Lift-Off) and a rubber eraser together to remove decals on Athearn or anything those 2 together are like girlfreind and boyfriend to me and works well!!!!!! [ 12 March 2001: Message edited by: 7600EM_1 ]
