I have only posted one blog, and I'm still having trouble navigating on this site, so please bear with me and my inexperience. If anyone out there could help me find new motors for my 1956 Lionel Magne Traction locomotives, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a New Jersey Central Fairbanks-Morse Trainmaster No. 2341, and a Baltimore and Ohio F-3 No. 2368. The engines are still running, and I have replaced the brushes in the motors, but they both have lost a step or two in speed and power. For instance, the F-3 used to be able to haul both (I have 2) non powered "B" units along with 4 pasenger cars, and now I can only haul the pasenger cars, I have to leave off the "B" units. I would really like to have the new motors on hand, and some day if and when they give out, replace them.
Rick, welcome to Trainboard! Although I am in O I am in narrow gauge so don't know much about Lionel...BUT I would start with Lionel as they may have replacement motors that will work. Certainly someone here will know more than I and I will step aside for their more informed opinions
Hi John, thanks for the welcome and the advice. I may have to contact Lionel directly because they do not show any replacement "motors" in their On-Line web catalog.
Another source may be EBay, I do see a lot of parts for sale...of course with used motors you may be buying something that is already worn out...
Rick- Welcome to TrainBoard! Try the Train Collectors Association ("TCA"): www.traincollectors.org Or the Toy Train Operating Society ("TTOS"): www.ttos.org Someone at one of those groups should be able to help you make contact with a reputable parts source. Oh, for the days when Madison Hardware was still around... Boxcab E50
I knew someone would have the right links!! Wow, the idea of buying model trains at the hardware or at the five and dime sure brings back memories!!
It certainly does stir memories! So many places would sell trains, supplies, parts and do repairing. They were a decent money maker. Especially at Christmas time. Boxcab E50
Yep, in fact my dad had his own corner drug store and carried train sets at Christmas...hmmm wonder where my first trains came from
Welcome to Trainboard Rick, Parts dealers will be a better bet than Lionel. Those motors have been long gone from the Lionel factory. The current Lionel has a tough time getting parts from China and they probably won't work with the 1956 model you have. Another place to ask for help is the O gauge rr forum: The O Gauge Railroading On-Line Forum - Powered by Eve For Enterprise Good luck on your search, not impossible to find. Greg
