Between 1977 and 1980, Southern purchased several hundered insulated boxcars from FGE. http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=40645 These cars were used in beer and newsprint service among other things. The cars featured a wide 12' door and distinctive side stiffening ribs that make the car unique. I want to model several of these cars in N scale using parts from verious cars currently available. While I know the car has an interior length of 52'6" and and a 57'11" length over the strikers, I do not know how long the exterior of the carbody is. My best guess is that it is about 55 feet, but I would like to be a little more accurate.
