George, I have a little bit of experience with outsourcing and allow me to correct your statement to "you get exactly what you specify, nothing more." The new Atlas 40' steel boxcars are wonderful and made in China. :shade:
Point taken on the Atlas 40 footers, one of the exceptions I was thinking of. That is one company that does seem to have the situation under control. I can't imagine that some of the other "quality" I've seen, both in work and in play, was explicitly specified, though.
Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? So Joe, hopefully your late April approval meeting went well and you've had time to digest some of this. I've noticed you dropping some hints or outright "coming soon" type of comments here and there, so what do you say, can you throw us a bone here on anything that was mentioned in this thread? Did we spawn (or, at least, reinforce) an idea to make it onto the drawing board? If not details, perhaps a "yes, three of the cars mentioned here have been moved into the development stage". (Consult with Paul G. at Atlas if you need to...he's a master at distributing nebulous and non-commital information about future releases.) We need some LOVE here! :teeth:
ANYTHING MODERN FLORIDA EAST COAST!!! autoracks with more than 1 number is a start, FEC of corse. Pretty much my listing will be FEC unless i say otherwise. Another run of 90 ton hoppers with the FEC patch on the side. More ortner hoppers with FEC patch. autoracks (already said) 89' Flats with FEC. Everyone try to stay along with this description. When I went to Florida I saw a gravel train with what looked like this: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=749853 A run of these and I will buy these and FEC stuff. My dad's side. DL&W (Lackawanna) items. Like Heavyheight cars, 40' Boxs, Flats, Gons, Proper TOFC cars ( with the little side thing on the cars) and pretty much anything Lackawanna and EL. Brian
I've watching my videos from my trip to the USA in 2000 and reminded myself of an observation I made at the time. In every train we saw, with the exception of a few unit coal trains, during six weeks railfanning in the US were cars I have never seen made in N scale, so there's plenty of scope for MTL to produce new cars.
Report! Well, this was a huge contribution over the past 6 months and thanks to some of the suggestions I was able to make a case for some new product. Specifically the Heavyweights, 4 to start with, hopefully 4 more once we finish up with the designs we have underway. They look great at this point and we have even designed brand new Trucks for them that are spectacular. The plan as of now is to release them in sets of 4 or 6, which ever makes economic sense and then follow with ones and two's to fill out a consist. Two other suggestions that were in the top 10 were accepted and have been designed and awaiting tooling time. So we listened and your input was valuable. Cheers Joe MTL
After reading 23 pages of this thread my eyes are blurry! I noticed a few folks were interested in Ventilated box cars. If it's not to late, I'll add my vote for these also! They were run on the C&O, D&RGW, CP, SAL, SP Coast, ACL, FEC, SOU, and Central of Georgia, and probably others. Very cool looking car.
Hello Joe, many thanbks for the reporet. Heavyweights with new trucks, in 4 or 6 packs plus single cars later! Wow!! I can hardly wait, thi sis excellent news!! Many thanks for listening so carefully to our wishes!! Cheers Dirk
I gotta echo the request for a modern 65' LPG tankcar. Cannot believe no one has jumped onto that niche in the market yet!
Joe D'Amato, Look into the spiral Joe You are getting sleepy....sleepy......very sleepy. Good! Now Joe, you are in my control. You are standing in front of a freight yard full of Ventilated boxcars. Everywhere you look there are ventilated boxcars. Joe, you LOVE ventilated boxcars. Ventilated boxcars make you very happy! As you look at the ventilated boxcars you see one in particular that makes you the most happy. It says Central of Georgia on it. Joe, you LOVE Central of Georgia ventilated boxcars! They make you the most happy! Joe, you are about to wake up now. You won't remember being hypnotized. But when you wake up you will have an overwhelming urge to produce ventilated boxcars! OK Joe, wake up!
CofGaFan...LOL Seriously though out of all possibilities mentioned the ventilated boxcar is about the only one I would actually buy. Good luck!
Great to hear, looking forward to it. Joe, 3 RR come to mind the DL&W, the Lackawanna, and the Delaware Lackawanna and Western.
Has anyone suggested a... ...nevermind... And for all the follow ons- no, I didn't mean a "nevermind" car- it's been done before, you just missed that when you were drooling for that "other" car. Mark
Must...design...ventilated boxcars....must...design...ventilated boxcars...must....I...love...ventilated...box...cars...must ... design ... 40' PS1 Box Cars... must...design.... OOPS.. P Joe
I'll second that vote for DL&W passenger cars ...(hint, hint) they'd go real nice with all the RTR n-scale milk cars available now.
Please sir, may I have an Erie caboose? NO ONE makes one and think of all the Kato Mikes out there. I'm really tired of scraping "lackawanna" off of the Atlas non-prototypical cabooses. A proto E-L would also be a good seller I believe. And yes some DL&W passenger cars would be lovely
