Rumor has it that CSXT is going to try a new paint scheme on there "new" SD70M ,SD60 and GP60. Is there any truth to this?

I have not heard anything about them changing the paint scheme... I wonder if it involves including a "wheel", a "cat" or a "horse" [IMG] As far as adding any GP60's, that would be hard to do unless they pick up some from NS, SP, or off lease units. I know that they have an awful lot of lease units on the rails right now, which has introduced some different locos and schemes not usally seen.

I would venture to guess that CSX would NOT attempt to change their paint scheme yet, as they have made major progress in getting their locos into 1 scheme and probably would not want to start over!

Hmmmm......interesting. I remember hearing a rumor a couple years ago, before the Conrail takeover, that CSX was looking at a new paint scheme. Personally, I think the current "Bright Future" scheme looks great. I see it out here in SoCal on the Espee all the time, I shot a couple CSX SD50's last week. As for GP60's, I_think_it is still in EMD's catatlog, although no one has ordered any since Espee's last batch in 1994, so they could possibly get some that route, or possibly swap some from NS?

Cool....thanks for the info, Chessie. IIRC, the EMD/LLPX GP60's were the demo units with the "rounded" cabs and noses. If they're the same ones I'm thinking of, they spent A LOT of time leased to Espee in the late 80's-early 90's. Some more interesting CSX power to look out for out here on the west coast! [IMG]

It'll be interesting to see GP60's in CSX paint (especially if they are the former Demo units... I have photographed the NS GP59's (ex-EMD Demo units) with the rounded nose and cab; very unique!). Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the GP40-2's the last EMD 4 axle locos bought by any of the CSX companies?

Yes if memory serves me correctly Chessie 4447 was the last 4 axle EMD bought new by any of the original CSX prdicessors. As for Conrail I think they bought some very late production GP40-2 but I dont have any dates.

The gp60,Ive seen Norfolk southern gp60's before, nothing similar to the EMD lease unit picture. I thouthoght it would look like the SD60s that I've seen before.

Sorry for any confusion.. I was using the body style of the EMD lease unit as an example; the NS GP60's are painted pretty much the same as all other NS units.

The new issue of Diesel Era Magazine (July/August) states: "With CSX recently swapping a variety of older EMD locos to LLP (EMD) for a fleet of SD70's (former EMD 7000-7024) quite a variety of units will be wearing LLPX's quasi-EMD paint scheme..<snip>" The picture shows a former SOU/NS GP38 with low nose in LLPX paint.

No hint as to any new schemes for CSX though...
