Greetings all Well, I decided to play in HO, having been a dyed-in-the-wood N gauger for 30 years My big problem was what to model here in Canada, since the research seemed daunting. Anyway to cut a long story short, I decided to go fictional, based on a little fact and a lot of imagination. There used to be, here in Canada, a Great Western Railway.. Windsor - Toronto - Niagara Falls with head offices in Hamilton. The railway got into trouble and merged with the Grand Trunk shortly after the big gauge conversion from 5'6 to 4' 8 1/2 " (This is fact) My premise is that rather than merge with the Grand Trunk, they contacted the Great Western in the UK and got financial aid and technical support from the then home country. This merger operated well, and in my world, still survived into the transition period, 1940's - 1960's. A lot of personel were shipped across the pond to Canada, from the 'old country' and helped to instill a sense of corporate ownership and identity..... (much as Wisconsin Central did with the image of EWS in the 1990's but in reverse) Anyway... with apologies to all the UK GWR modellers here, I present the first loco painted to represent a new SW7 switcher purchased by the GWR of Canada. (Yes, it needs the cab glazing replaced when the weathering and varnishing is completed) A small trial switching layout is being built to give this loco running rights, and I will follow up with photos as and when if there is any interest Regards Graham Evans (newbie ex-pat in Toronto) [ March 05, 2005, 07:55 AM: Message edited by: Graham Evans ]
I don't think you need to. Anything that promotes God's Wonderful Railway to the heathen masses will be OK with GWR fans I looked at the picture before I read the text and thought the letter/number style looked 'English'. Nice job.
I'm not all that familiar with railroads of theh British Isles. But from photos I have seen on the 'Net, your paint scheme is quite convincing. Very "traditional" in appearance. Boxcab E50
A good story! And a good looking engine. You promise a interesting layout. I'm looking for pictures. Happy tooooot Wolfgang
Thanks for mentioning the Frisco there, Mike Seriously..........the paint job on that switcher looks very nice, with the "English" touch to the lettering. Makes me wonder what a larger locomotive would look like (say, a GP7 or GP9)..
Nice, but shouldn't the stacks have a copper ring on top? Very good, and quite creative too. Plus no need to get custom decals made.
