    Hi all,

I've been playing train sims in one form or another ever since getting a Tandy way back in the day. I don't collect models (too expensive), but I might as well considering how expensive DLC is these days.

I recently took a trip across Canada on Via Rail and it was totally worth it. Sharing washrooms was kind of annoying, though everything else exceeded my expectations.

I sometimes worry that trains are fading in significance to most people, but seeing a board like this puts me at ease. Happy to be here!

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

I'd enjoy reading more about that VIA trip. By any chance did you take any photos?

I agree about the restroom thing, having done same on Amtrak....

Hi monkeyboy7, Welcome to the TrainBoard. I envy you your VIA trip. I have VIA from Halifax, NS to Vancouver, BC in my Bucket List, but who knows when. Understand that I'd have to change at Montreal, maybe also Toronto, but that would be part of the fun.

BTW, Amtrak ridership is growing significantly on most routes.

Gah, not too many photos. Just a bunch of home movie footage that's probably not worth watching!

To be completely honest, it can get a bit boring at times, like when you're crossing the prairies. But with that said, a lot the Canadian outdoors is gorgeous. I especially liked the part through the Rocky Mountains, just so incredibly scenic.

Unfortunately I didn't get to experience the east coast (trip was Toronto - Vancouver), but it's not off the table!
