1. I am a novice Lionel train guy inspite of having my Lionel set (with some modest additions) since the 1950's. They only get out at Christmas. All my trains are the 0-27 type. 2. I love the New Haven EP-5 Rectifier #2350 and would like to have one, but.....do they run on o-27 track? Or, would I have to buy O scale track? Thanks, Alan
I googled around a bit and it seems to be a reproduction of an older 50's model so it should be fine on O-27. Are you buying from a store or from online? Either way you can probably ask the seller about it.
New Haven rectifier 2350 I'm looking on-line at one. The seller seems to be more of a novice than I. I believe asking him would be useless, however, he does indicate that this engine was his as a child. From the story he tells it seems most likely it is a 1950's Lionel engine.
I ran my NH EP5 Jet on O27 all time. Of course I used the manual switches which had more clearance than the electric controled ones. As I recall, it worked with those too. Good luck and enjoy. Greg
I believe we're talking about two different engine styles here. The EP5 will certainly negotiate O-27. A catalog number 2350 is an EP5. This particular one was manufactured from 1956 through 1958. A Rectifier is meant for O Gauge track curves. Such as their famous #2329 Virginian. Boxcab E50
Well my Virginian Rectifier ran on my O27 layouts too. IIRC they have the same frame as the GP9's. The Rectifier always reminded me of a brick on a skate board with pantographs. If you are interested in both engines, Williams Trains sell them, and they are pretty darn good engines from what I've heard. Greg
I have three EP-5's and the fuel tank clears 027 switch machines on the curved section by 1/8 or better. I also have a VGN rectifier works fine on 027 track and clears 027 switch machines as well.
John, The one engine I don't have is the GG1. Do you, and how does it work on O27 switches? The 736 was my only engine that had issues with the electric control switches in O27. Since all I had were the manuel switches clearance was never an issue. Greg
As I stated above I am a novice regardless of my many years owning Lional trains. This discusion has been very useful. I'm sure in the not too distant future I will acquire a #2350 New Haven engine, but I'm quite frugal (cheap) so I'm looking for the best possible deal. The engine doesn't have to be perfect or near mint, only that it is in reasonably good condition, it runs well and the lights and horn works. Alan
I don't own any GG1's so I don't know. The mid section would clear. It's the end swing of the shell that worries me.
