As noted above, the Pine series 10-6 ran with the Super Chief, Chief, SF Chief and just about any other ATSF train that ran sleepers from about 1948 on. The modified post-1964 version of the Indians as modeled by Kato ran on the Super Chief but I'm not sure if it ran on any other trains. Both ran with Amtrak. Rick

The Pine series 10-6 sleepers could show up on most trains with sleeper service at one time or another. Super Chief, Chief, Texas Chief, San Francisco Chief, Grand Canyon etc. They lasted up until Amtrak and many were picked up by Amtrak.

    Thanks Rick & Randy!

Another question: Is "Indian Squaw" regarded as being in the "Pine" series?

The Indian series of Passenger cars were 11 bedroom sleeper cars... The Pines series of Passenger cars 10 - 6 sleepers.

Now, now, NOT those kind of skirts. No special tools needed for that.

Why did ATSF, who were particularly conscious of appearances, at least during the golden age or passenger service, remove the skirts? And if they were purchased this way, why?

I believe it went something like this. Bruce may correct me if I am wrong. ;) The first order of 10- 6 sleepers were delivered from Budd without them. I forget if they were specifically ordered that way or if it was the default from Budd. The Santa Fe brass saw them and had a fit. Skirt kits were ordered from Budd to mount on the delivered cars and new cars were ordered with them. It was not long though before the maintenance people were exerting pressure to remove them again and order newer cars without them. So the upshot is that there were cars that came without them, then had them, then had them removed. Some kept them from delivery until Amtrak. Others never had them. Photographic evidence from the era modeled may be required if you want to be 100% accurate. I am not that precise and just run a few with each configuration not knowing for sure which car name had them at what time. While all this was going on, skirts were randomly coming off other classes of cars too.

I'm going to have to get one of these. Living in AZ for 32 years where I'm sure it passed through; would be nice to have added to the fleet. That would be my only complete Passenger Train set
