Now the basic scenery is about done on my Andersley Western Railroad, I have started adding new pics on the AWRR website.

Starting the 3% climb from Andersley. The tracks on the right are the entry to the west end of the yard.

    WOW

Was the conversion for BNSF 6552 (F45) fairly straight-forward?

I think I need to check with Troy at JnJ
and order a couple of shells. Ironically we used to see these units several years ago here in Tucson AZ before they were retired.

Tucson is on the former SP mainline, and the local electric utility had a coal contract with ATSF to bring in 10,000 ton unit trains (100 cars x 100 tons). Typical power was 6-7 units including 2-3 of these beasts.

Once the off-chance that JnJ is out of stock,
is the Lima N F45 still sold in Europe?

Your new photos make me "BN" green with envy 8=)

    Hey Don,

JnJ shows on his web site that those shells are in stock.

What are you going to use as power for these engines?

    Hi All
I once found another site listing the F45 Shell, it was Father Nature Trees http://www.fathernaturetrees.com/F45.html

I have yet to get one, I am concerned about the quality, If anyone has one please advise. I would place it on a KATO Drive, so as to run it with SD40s and SD45s.

Allan, I like the look of your layout, and the SD45s look great as BNSF.

Do you use Atlas or Peco (looks Atlas) We used Peco concrete for our Exhibition Layout, looks very Modern.

Very nice, Alan! I wish I would take some time to finish more areas of scenery. I always seem to go off onto some other facet of the hobby though  You have inspired me to get after it :D!

Thanks for all the positive comments, guys [IMG] The photos were carefully posed to exclude the many unfinished areas! :D

Don, the SDF45 was very easy to do. It fits very nicely on a Kato SD45 chassis. I think I had to mill away a bit of resin inside the top of the shell to make it sit down correctly, and added some styrene strips along the inside at the bottom so it gripped the chassis. Trial and error method used [IMG] I also made the steps in brass, as they would be a bit vulnerable to damage. All-in-all, a very quick and satisfying locomotive to acquire.

Marc, the scenic material I use is by Woodlands Scenics. I get a small container, like an ice cream tub, and put a mix of turf and coarse turf in various shades and mix together. This is liberally sprinkled onto a layer of undiluted PVA glue. When all has dried, I push a piece of gauze into the pipe of the vacuum cleaner, so I can collect the excess for further use. Further texture is then added to the basic cover. I use 'Clump Foliage' to represent bushes and scrub. I have some trees ready to 'plant', but am holding off until the main work is finished, so they do not get damaged.

Michael, the track I use is Peco code 55. I have to use a British-made track, right? :D

    Alan,
The layout looks great, always good to see how others progress, can you take an overall shot of the layout? I'm interested to see what it looks like

Ok, here are a few more pics. of the layout.

As soon as a train emerges from staging, it crosse over to the right hand track for the climb up to Andersley, and immediately enters a tunnel.

Emerging from the tunnel. The grade is 3%
    [IMG]

after rounding the curve another short tunnel is passed
    [IMG]

Stopped in Andersley, waiting for a stack train to clear the single track section. The track above the C44 is the grade to summit, track to the right of the train is Andersley yard main track, usually used for arriving freights to be sorted in the yard, which is empty, as these pictures were only test shots for photography angles, etc.!
