I posted a couple dozen new NS photos on my website tonight, including this one close up of a high nose SD40:

Not bad for a 35 year old unit! [IMG]

Great looking photos. I do like the older units better. They just have more 'life' to em. Too bad their steamers ain't running anymore. I miss the 1218.

    Nice shots Harold.

Was the 1592 in yard or road service?

Interesting recent addition of a vent to the high short hood.

they couldn't put enough vents on those junkers to kill the smell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! those locos were great in their day but long past due to be replaced. the last time i was running a sd40 i think it was 1605 i had bells and whistles going off every other minute. they are spending more on those than anything just to get them functional again and they didn't renew the lease on the sd50s because they used too much fuel, don't figure, hmm spend everything we have to keep junk running or renew lease on good running locos that burn a little more fuel? oh well the high hoods do look good, kinda cool being on an engine that is made just for the rr you work for. instead of off the assembly line spartan style.

I figured that high hoods are "endangered specied" and better capture photos of them while I can [IMG] Maybe the governement will step and with legislation to protect them [IMG]

    Thanks Chris [IMG]

The 1592 was in road service and left on a Southbound freight with 7 other units that same morning

Yes, the vent is a good detail. I also think the lighting shows off the truck details well.

    Harold:

Yes, an excellent shot showing the double-clasp brakes and cast iron shoes.

    Hi Len,
Sign up for the flag, as Lady Sunshine pointed out, is you want one. I picked a North Carolina flag instead of the US flag because it was more unique.
I am sure you haven't seen me in Greensboro, because I would have spoken! [I don't miss a chance to seek out other railfans [IMG] ]
