On the way home from church today, a quick look into CSX's Wadsford Yard in Evansville, IN revealed what looked to be a brand new UP boxcar or at least one in new paint. What was so unusual and made me take notice was that the reporting marks and road number were in the upper left corner and the UP shield on the upper left side toward the top. I know that I don't get out enough to watch the trains, but this was new to me and I assume that it's to prevent "tagging" from covering up the reporting marks and road number. Is this only on the UP or is this going to be the new industry standard? Wish I could had gotten a photo.

I don't know if it's an industry standard but it is an outrage that the railroads have had to cave to the rotten scoundrels who, originally, were fairly careful not to cover up essential information on cars in their law-breaking BS but now don't give a s***.

I've seen a few of the UP cars like that. Here's one. Have also seen TBOX and GATX box cars with the reporting marks up high.

That’s it. Thanks for the photo. I wonder how long it will be before we see that in N scale.

I hope they don't change their slogan from "We can handle it" to "We give in"

I first noticed it on the ARMN Trinity Reefer, also UP owned, you know those big white blank "canvasses"

The neat thing about the ARMN reefers is the history of the reporting marks. They tie back to the American Refrigerator Transit Co (ART). that was owned by the Wabash and MP, then the MP and NW, then bought out by the MP. The marks went to the UP after the UP-MP merger. When the PFE split into the UPFE and SPFE, the UP started to use the ARMN marks for new reefers, rather the UPFE initials.
