Was just wondering if anyone here has tried the new pre mixed and ready to pour water that is being offered by Woodland Scenics? It looks pretty interesting so I am considering giving it a try. Would like to hear any comments.

The hobbyshop owner in my area is building a layout and I believe he said he is using the new WS product. He said the one test he made indicated that it flowed fairly well and cured slowly enough that he could work with it for a few minutes. However I believe he said that it stiffened fast enough that he didn't feel it would slump all the way to the bottom of a steep mountain stream. He felt that it would probably work best with many layers of about 1/8" each.

He said it is transparent after curing, so the river bottom (or whatever) must be completely finished and dry before application. Unlike various polyester products which can be mixed with pigments so that they hide the bottom.

I'll try to post his experiences as he gets further along.

I used the Woodland Scenics E-Z Water, and it came out very nice. I was never able to melt the stuff with a hair-dryer (maybe I had an old batch), but heated the pellets on the stove in an old soup can. Once I finally got the stuff melted it was easy to work with, poured nicely and looks great. I painted the lake bottom black, and the shores tan before pouring. Looks as good as anything I've seen done with the 2 part epoxies, or glaze.

One thing I forgot to mention was that this new WS water poured directly from a plastic bottle, apparently no mixing required. I could be mistaken, but that's what I remember being shown.

    Hank,
You are right. This is the stuff that comes in a bottle and is ready to pour, no mixing, melting or anything like that to do. I picked up a bottle today. Maybe I'll get a chance to try it out this week. Will post the results when I do pour it. Looks simple enough so wish me luck. [IMG]

Well, so far the results are favorable with the water. It is almost too easy to use. Here is a tip if you use this. The instructions say you can pour a second coat in 24 hours. That's true but don't touch it. It stays tacky for 3 to 4 days. Will update this again when I get some more work done on it. [IMG]

Is this new "water" safe on a foam based layout???

BNSF, do you have any pics?

    Rob,
As far as I can tell, it is safe on foam. However, it would be a safe bet to seal it with a latex paint or something like that. After all, it is a liquid and will find a place to leak if it can.

Have not taken any pics of it yet. Will try to do that soon. The guys at my local hobby shop are also very interested in the results and want some pics. Will try my luck at posting them when I get the pics taken.
