Hi, Everyone! I grew up in a very small town in Indiana called Greensburg. The New York Central Railroad ran through on it's way between Cincinnati, Ohio and Chicago, IL. My father used to work at the depot so I spent quite a bit of time there and I loved spending time with my father and sitting on the baggage hanling carts, pretending that they were stage coaches. Because my father worked for the railway we were able to ride the train for free. My mother used to take me to Indianapolis and to Cincinnati on shopping trips with her (Ugh!). I got to know the baggage guys on the trains and some of the conductors. The James Whitcomb Riley was the best train ever!!!! I am now trying to build an n scale layout. Of course, it is an on going love affair!! Jim
Welcome to TrainBoard! Be sure to check out our NYC Forum. You'll find dome very good information there.
Jim, Welcome to the TrainBoard, especially being a fan of the "Central". Since you are a Central fan from W-A-Y out West, Fitz and I will try to cut you a little slack. Fitz (also a Jim) grew up on the Mohawk Division, and I grew up and rode often on the Harlem Division. :tb-biggrin:
Yes, Jim, welcome! We have a few regulars on the New York Central fallen flag forum, Hytec and Boxcab among them. Also Roger from the Indiana Division and LEW, who probably operated steam in Greensburg. Come on over and visit, and please contribute memories of the "Central." :tb-biggrin:
Jim welcome aboard! Nice to hear about the NYC in a midwest setting. Can't wait to see your layout and please feel free to post more stories from your past.
