All, Finished up a deal, on a new D&RG RR purchase. Just acquired a 3 1/2" Lunkenheimer steam whistle. Something that could have come from a steam locomotive at one time. Overall view Prop of D&RG RR Manufacturer name Yeah, missing actuator valve and parts. But, I CAN get the necessary parts to make operational!
Too cool! My lovely wife conspired behind my back to have a member of our last RR club make me a PVC train whistle. It's sweet, but takes a TON of air. Someting to keep in mind for yours, if you make it operational; use a big air compressor!
My business is in an industrial tech complex and the son of the owner next door has two whistles. After rebuilding he brought them in to try as they have a huge compressor. As HemiAdda2nd suggested. When it was activated it blew out all insulation packing at the top of the wall between our two units. Wear your ear plugs.
Whistle arrived today! Weighs in at close to, or just over about 10 pounds. Shows plenty of wear and tear from over the last 90-100 years. Or longer. Now, IF I can get a parts list, or an exploded diagram, I can set out to place a potential order for the parts necessary to make operational. Once done, I'll think about having a friend test it, since he's got a massive air compressor/tank. Then, it'll stay on display after that. Granted, would be fun to mount on back of my truck! And that ain't gonna happen!
Hopefully you can record some sound, when testing day comes. It would be fun to hear a sample toot. Boxcab E50
As for steam, I know a guy or two in Cheyenne that might be able to help with that... Ooooh, Lynn!!!!
Alan MIGHT know a few contacts for that as well! Gotta get the thing working first though! Shining it up right now, while watching/listening to various music videos on Youtube. Nothing better to do right now.
