From Reuters- Jacksonville Florida, March 31 2003. Former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich has been named as the head of CSXT's Human Resources Department, said spokesman Allen Cheuse at a press conference in the railroad's Jacksonville FL headquarters late yesterday. "We think that his management style is in line with what we want to accomplish over the next fiscal year" added Cheuse in a brief statement . After the announcement, Mr. Gingrich took to the podium and introduced himself to the company's 29,000 employees. "I've been studying Norfolk Southern's labor management style" he began, "and I come to the following conclusions: Number One, that an employee who likes his job must be a lazy employee, and we have far too many of those pretending to be working here at CSX. Number Two, that in order to rid ourselves of these slackers I will immediately institute a policy of no-more-Mr-Nice-Guy. We don't want friendly or affable employees, nor do we want an environment in which they will want to remain in our employ. Our bottom line is that the shareholder is everything and that our customers, employees, and the communities in which we operate are a collective nuisance whom we must stomp into submission." Mr. Gingrich gave no details about his intentions and would answer no questions from the press. CSXT's stock closed up yesterday at $44 US per share.
Barb, this ranks right up there with John Craft's announcement two years ago on this date that the SP Daylight was about to emerge from it's roundhouse in American Freedom Train colors. Hmmmm, his came true, so perhaps yours will too!!
This sounds suspisiously like an APril Fool Joke. Somehow I just don't see 'Ole Newt' being personnell mgr of a RR.
Well, there's nothing on their web site. I did find this: http://www.csx.com/?fuseaction=company.news_detail&i=45385&news_year=2003 But that topic is as close as it comes. Until I read otherwise, the idea it could be an April Fool joke seems quite plausible. Boxcab E50
That news statement sounds suspiciously like something an idiot I knew on the AOL free-fire zones would come up with. Once in a blue moon, he DOES come up with something that's funny- and this comes close to it.
