Shot this Saturday afternoon while running errands in Sherman: BN 7807 (an SD40-2) on the point of an empty northbound rock train. No BNSF stencils nor leaser reporting marks anywhere, but the initials "C & S" are barely visible over the real number boards and on the step sides in front of the cab. Every other green & black SD40-2 I've seen on the rock trains have been lettered for BNSF or one of the rent-a-wreck leasors (CEFX, FURX). This is the first unchanged BN diesel I've seen in a LONG time! Here's the side of that diesel. Makes this a double-rare unit, IMO. [ 24. January 2005, 03:12: Message edited by: friscobob ]
Oh great! Now the "Department of Spoil the Railfans Fun," which hides in the basement of Fort Worth and monitors us, will have this unit repainted by week's end. We still see one now and then up this way. Boxcab E50
I reported this rare bird on Railspot, and I KNOW for a fact that two BNSF dispatchers are members. I know they won't squeal, but 5 will get ya 10 that next time this unit goes in for a 92-day or other maintenance, it gets re-lettered.
Now that we've learned of the new BNSF paint theme, I'm wondering if the reason not all are restenciled, could have been their holding off in order to initiate the new paint? Possible? Boxcab e50
