Do any of you folks run engines or rolling stock that do not specifically fit your era?? For instance, a caboose on the end of a modern train, or steam in the modern era? If so, why?? I will be running an RS-1 that dates to the right era, but the paint scheme is about 5 to 10 years too late. Why?, CUZ I LIKE IT :D :D :D!! Happy Modeling!!

I run what I have because I want to see it run. If I don't have it, I don't run it. I could care less what it is, or what anyone else says about it. Its my rolling stock, my railroad, and your darned right, I am the boss, and will run whatever I please, because I am making this layout to do just that! So La Tee Da Da on top of that! :D

John, how do you know it was too late? Were all the RS-1s repainted by then? Railroads take a long time to repaint equipment, especially if it is in yard or local service. CSX still has some stuff in Chessie and Family Lines paint, 14 years or so after the merger.

Also, I'm sure we will see warbonnets, cream and green, lark dark grey, and DRGW orange for a long time to come, so even though they may have stopped painting locos in a certain scheme by a certain date, there could still be locos kicking around in that scheme.

And as Watash pointed out (as always :D) it's your RR, so do whatever you want!

The RS-1 is actually painted in a scheme that did not appear on the Santa Fe until the 1960s, my layout is set in the 1950s, so there is a slight out-of-era situation there, but the engine is cool, I have had it a long time and I intend to use it. Besides, only the rivet counters would know about the scheme... :D :D :D!! Happy Modeling!!

there was a B&O GP38 lettered for CSX a couple years ago over here for avbout 2-3 weeks for local service with 2 Wisconsin GPs also, the last I heard was that about 3 or for weeks after the engine was spotted, it was scrapped, NEVER SEEING CSX Paint  no wonder there was a big white X on the cab sides. I wish I had a camera with me :(

As Watash says it is my layout and I run what I please including cabooses (cabeeses) whatever. If I could run a plane on the tracks I probably would try. (that didn't sound quite right). Anyway I run what makes me happy. :D

Even though I'm back dating from "Today" to the 70's-80's, I still put Cabeese on the rear of my "Today" trains. Now I have plenty of "Yesterdays" Cabeese to put on my new-old trains. ;)

    Brent,
It sounds like a complex and interesting set up: yesterdays cabeese to put on your new-old trains !! Cabeese (caboosi ?) are one of the reasons I chose the era I did...love em and gotta have em!! Currently, I have only 1 :( but hey, my layout isn't even wired up yet, so there is plenty of time to get more !! I'm with the rest of you guys, I'll run what makes me happy, but generally that goes hand in hand with being correct with my era :D :D !! Happy Modeling!!

NEW...because I haven't done this era for a long time and it's something new to do for me.
    OLD...because it is a by-gone era.
    CABEESE...more than one caboose.

I'm selling off all my "today era" equipment and keeping the stuff that is common from the Mid-70s to Early-80s. Gone are the wide-cabs, but I get to keep my SD40/40-2/45's, GP30/35's, and other such era units. [IMG]

Yeah...I have to get some funds together so I decided to sell off SOME of my trains. I decided I would have a harder time parting with the Yellowbonnets, my PURE SANTA FE UNITS, now although BNSF patched. But hey, I can fix that...So, it's back to the not-so-far past! [IMG] I have a few friends doing the same era and we've talked about modeling together, we'll see.
