Good news for depot lovers , especially the NP variety. Amtrak announced on Tuesday after Rob Eaton Dir for NW Amtrak gov affairs , that the renovation of the NP depot in Sandpoint ID will move forward in 2014.You can go online to the Daily Bee at wwwbonnercountydailybee.com and get the full story. Last year the depot charted over 9000 riders so Sandpoint will remain a " train " town . The budget is at 1 million $ that the state of Idaho earmarked for the depot when the bypass budget was set , so this will accommodate needed up grades and reinforcements !!! Just a few short years ago, this building was doomed to demolition. Pessimism was high, negatives were many. This is excellent news! I would enjoy, very much, following this restoration process.
