Seeing the MOW stuff next to those big GE's shows how small they are in comparison!

Amazing to see all the equipment. Then to realize it was all done by hand, for so many decades.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of trackwork going on this winter. Saw an NS tie gang working in Dallas GA the other day on my way to the airport. Usually, winter is a slower time for the track gangs.

NS performs trackwork year round, systemwide. It may be that schedules have opened up to allow more work to be done... i.e, gangs have finished jobs early so they can move to the next scheduled job, etc...

I heard a rumour that a single-track stretch near Lexington, NC is being double-tracked. How much truth to that there is, I don't know. But I did see similar equipment passing northbound through Salisbury one day, and a trainload of what looked like welded rail in Lexington the next day.

    Jon,
They have announced plans to double track south out of Greensboro, but I don't know how far it will extend. I was thinking it was only to High Point.

My dad is in a model airplane club whose driveway crosses the main about 100 feet past where it goes from two tracks out of Lexington down to one, and he's who I heard saying it was to be doubletracked from there onward. I think it may have been such at some point in the past - I seem to recall a bridge out there being wider than it needed to be.
