I've decided to build a couple of 3-foot NTrak corners this year after seeing some inspiration photos from ABPR. However, I'm not the best of carpenters. After trying out benchwork construction like I'm used to (building the 1x4 frame and then fastening the plywood top to it), I've proven to myself that I can't always be trusted with a tape measure. My partner in modeling and life (my wife) suggests that I cut the plywood top first and then fasten the individual framing boards to it instead of the method I tried.

What have other corner module builders done to get their benchwork done? I'd rather not just go buy a kit since three 1x4 boards are less expensive and easier to get...

HI Slambo, when I joined the N track group about ten years ago the sent a manual the showed how to construct modules as well as the corner ones. I will look for it and give you more info later

The easiest way to do a three foot corner is to not cut the diagonal on the outside corner. This will maintain the 90 degree factory angle on the plywood. Measure three feet on either side of this angle. You can also eliminate the diagonal on the inside of the corner. This simplifies construction as all the angles are now 90 degrees. Also you do not have to use 1/2 inch plywod for a top. 1/4 inch luan plywood will suffice. It is sometimes called underlayment. Use intermediate supports (1X2's) every foot and 1X4's for the perimeter frame. Makes an easy corner module that is light weight and easy to pack and transport. You can even extend one leg of the corner to four or six feet. But if you do it may be best to do two of the same to off set each other on opposite sides of the layout.
