I'm on my second body style for the 70 Ton covered hoppers, and this time it's a New York Central version as built in 1946 by Despatch Shops, Inc. Someone just built it in HO Scale as a resin kit, but I needed some for personal consumption! Here is my NYC Low Cupola Caboose to go with it: -Robert
I still have a bit more to do for the instructions, but I burned 51 hoppers worth of parts so far. that's only 16 3 packs and 1 master refrence kit. I plan on doing 3 packs to save on costs with packaging, and duplicate instructions. -Robert
I model mostly NP, but I dabble in NYC when nobody is looking. Why? When I was building my first N Trak module in the mid 80's, Con-Cor used to sell train sets for collectors. I had always liked the look of the Hudson, and they had a Pacemaker fast freight set with a hudson that I always wanted. I finally saved enough shekels to get that set, and it was the pride of my roster, with the Hudson running better than any other N steamers available at the time, it had 12 pacemaker cars behind it. I always loved that train, and I plan on having a Z Scale Hudson soon... as soon as Michael Hilliard is finished making the retrofit kit he is planning. In fact I am building 2 more of the NYC Low Cupola cabooses right now on my workbench, as well as updating the instructions for the Z Scale NYC 19000 series caboose kit. Right now I'm 70% NP, 20% NYC, and 10% Santa Fe, with a few hill roads thrown in the mix for my Pacific Northwest collection. The beauty of NP and NYC is, no matter what railroad it was, you could always fins an NYC, NP, and Santa fe car in their yards at any given time. -Robert
There's one of your GN cars on Epay right now, but I dropped out when it hit $50.00!! I figure I'll just buy one from you instead!
I was lucky enough to order a set of 3 of the few assembled kits to which I thank both Robert and his wife! I would have had the kit parts glued to my fingers had I attempted to build them... They are pieces of fine art. Michael
