Rather than copy or paraphrase due to extreme laziness.....

LOCKPORT, N.Y. - The Medina Railway Museum's two recently acquired New York Central E8s have arrived in New York from Nashville, Tenn. Museum president J. L. Dickinson and a member of the Museum's Board of Directors spent ten days in late March in Nashville prepping the two locomotives for movement. The units traveled from Nashville through Louisville to Cincinnati, and then through Cleveland to Buffalo, N.Y. From Buffalo they moved to Niagara Falls and ultimately to Lockport's Genesee Valley Transportation. GVT is a short line that operates from Lockport to Brockport, N.Y. The Museum operates excursion trains over the railroad between Medina and Lockport.

The two units are New York Central 4068 and 4080, built by EMD in 1953. They retained their NYC numbers in the Penn Central merger of 1968 and were later acquired by NJ Transit, with the 4068 becoming NJ Transit 4320 and the 4080 the 4325. NJ Transit sold the units, and eventually, Michael Fox purchased them. He restored the units to operating condition, complete with the classic "lightning stripe" New York Central livery. The pair were used in charter service by the Tennessee Central Railway Museum, but when TCRM purchased their own units, Fox put the locomotives up for sale. The Medina Railway Museum purchased the two, investing about $150,000 in their purchase, movement and repair. The Medina Railway Museum leases ex-NYC 2900-series Budd coaches from the Western New York Railroad Historical Society, and will have a matching consist of NYC streamlined passenger cars to go with the units.

Mechanics serviced and fired up each unit to train museum personnel April 3-6. The units will be stored in a building adjacent to the Lockport Yard facility under cover and fenced in for protection. It will take about another month for the E8s to be readied to pull excursion trains, at which time they will be moved to Medina for the tourist season. The Museum hopes to have them ready for their "Day Out With Thomas" event on May 4-6 and 11-13. The Museum is located in the old New York Central freight depot in Medina built in 1905, and one of the largest (301 feet by 34 feet) surviving wooden freight depots in the United States. Interesting site. I do wish they had a little more background on their route, it's history, etc.

They left out the fact that the E8's actually had an interesting trip on the way to Medina..

They were cut into a train at Cleveland, which made its way in Buffalo... However, the E's wound up in Syracuse, two hours EAST of Buffalo... Hm... how is this possible? YEP that's right, the crew forgot to set out two massive E8 locomotives that were right behind the motive power.... So they were cut loose in Syracuse, and came back to Buffalo. I caught the units in Rochester, and chased 'er to Buffalo.. at 3 in the morning! They looked pretty good - they appear to still have some gloss coat left, but could use a wax job.

Many are hoping that the E8's are operating for the excursion at the end of April, but the museum has not guaranteed anything, but that didn't stop the tickets from selling out -- apparently they will be using Alco's if the E8's are not running.

    A very historic ride...

:shade: It's has been quite unique, to have ridden behind these E8's.

My experience, was to leave Cookeville, Tennessee, ride all the way to Broadway Avenue in Nashville, and spend a couple of hours touring Broadway, all the way to Union Station, restored to a hotel.

The consist was both New York Central E8's, and the A/B E units owned by the Tennessee Central Railway Museum.

The four E units together, was a once in a lifetime thrill for me! The ruling grade eastbound, is 3.03% at Silver Point, Tennessee. It seems that E8's like to run at least 40mph, and the rocking ride really made the event!

Congradulations, and use in good health!

Allen, that is a fantastic shot, made all the better by showing one of the most beautiful E unit paint schemes ever designed.
