I recently bought an unlettered Broadway Limited 2-8-2 USRA light with the intention of lettering it for New York Central. BLI's model comes with the early slat pilot as they were delivered from Alco. I have seen the early black and white photo of a NYC USRA h6a with US lettering on the tender then the small NYC lettering below the coal load with the slat pilot but all the service photos of the NYC H6a have the step pilots added. When was this transition made, was it over time or did the NYC convert to the step pilot as soon as the USRA regulation ended. I'm trying to be as accurate with my model as possible. I'd like to have normal NYC lettering while still keeping the slat pilot but cant find any photos of this in service. Brett,
