Does anyone have, or know where information on New York Central Niagara's can be found to enable very highly detailed models to be produced? Someone over here in the UK is intending to make some in #1 scale if plans and photographs can be found.
Alan, there is a lot of information on the Niagara available. You could start with Al Staufer's "Steam Locomotives of the New York Central, Vol. 1." I also have some reprints from old railway mechanical journals. This wouldn't be Neil Holdsclaw, by any chance? A couple of years ago I mailed him some detailed drawings in the UK. There is another live steam operation in the UK, and I don't recall the scale, but they advertise on the Chaski board occasionally, and operate a beautifully built Niagara and NKP Berkshire, among many other steamers.
Hi Alan here are some links for you: http://www.nycshs.org/ http://www.rrhistorical-2.com/cnynrhs/ http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/nyc.html http://www.norwich.net/~pstrany/row/index.htm http://www.nycrrmuseum.org/ Hope these help Alan
Jim, the guy is called Neil Rose, of Finescale Locomotive Co. I used to build #1 scale models for him until I got too busy with N scale. The miniature railway is Stapleford Park, not too far from me, and I have seen their Niagara - forgot about that! They must have plans to have built such a beautiful machine. Maybe they would help Neil. Thanks Barb, picking up quite a few information sources
Alan, that engine at Stapleford (Thanks for filling in the info in my CRS mind) is a beauty, so they surely must have the blueprints for a real Niagara. (I made some trivial comment to your post on TO where I exist as nycman). I will again copy and send stuff from my limited files if they don't come through.
It is also impressive to see one of them take on water from the track pans at 40 or more mph. If you are close to the track it can be quite wet too.
I just love Niagara's, something aesthetic about them makes them the most perfect passenger 484 ever (IMHO). I can't wait 'til I can pick up a good one in HO Brass........ Martin
Alan, the folks at Stapleford posted a message on the Chaski board. They will be operating the Niagara and the Berkshire and their other locomotives on the weekend of August 24-25. Admission one pound per vehicle. They are 10 and 1/4 inch gauge. Here's a link: Stapleford Live Steamers
Thanks Jim, we went to this event last year. A really good day out. This link to the construction of the Niagara http://www.fsmr.org.uk/niagara.html
