From a NYC timetable from 1948, I figured out that when little I took the #59 Chicagoan from Cleveland to Toledo (years 1947-52) and now we would like to get a model train as close to what was used as possible. I can find a photo from early 60's but not from 47-52. Does anyone know what engine would have been used during that time? Or what book might have that era of pictures in? Any help would be appreciated in order to find a set that would be close to what I rode.
Princeyjo - First, let me welcome you to the Trainboard, it's great to see(?) new faces ... OK, read(!) new members' stuff! Second, I recommend that you ask the same question on the New York Central Forum in Fallen Flags. There are many knowledgeable folks there. I am also a NYC fan, but sadly my knowledge is limited to south of Albany. To offer a totally wild answer to your question - I would guess that you either had a J-Class Hudson or a K-Class Pacific on your train ... but then again .... Of course - through the CUT you probably had a P-1a motor on the point. [ 25 March 2002, 01:24: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
get a copy of "New York Central's Great Steel Fleet 1948-1967 by Geoffrey H. Doughty copyright 1999 TLC Publishing. It should have what you are looking for, or at least it will give you an idea of how the trains were made up
