How did an NYC car get on D&H track? Let's see, didn't we have an interchange at Troy, NY or close by? The Laurentian came down from New England and got handed off to NYC for transport to Grand Central. Did the railroads share cars?
I have seen photographs of The Laurentian with NYC cars connected so I assume this is also such a photo of a trip gone bad. I also have documentation that Diner NYC#519 (Pullman, 1914) was purchased 1949 and renumbered to D&H#154, NYC#665 (Pullman, 1930) to D&H#153 in 1956 and NYC#7 (a.k.a. NYC#2; Pullman, 1928) to D&H#300 in 1955; which orignally was CCC&St.L#400. Any help tracking down history of such cars would be great including what car is pictured above.
In 1951 I boarded a D&H southbound train at Eagle Bridge, NY. My car (possibly others) was uncoupled from the D&H train in Troy, NY, transferred across the Hudson River to Albany, and coupled to a NYC train. From Albany the car went on to Grand Central Terminal. I have no idea if the D&H train was the Laurentian, but the entire trip was in daylight. Perhaps Stourbridge Lion or another D&H historian has information.
Hytec, welcome to Trainboard, and thanks for restoring some confidence in my fading memory. It was at Troy, then. My old NYC timetables don't have the names of other RR's trains, so I don't know if the Laurentian had a transfer there or not. I do know that it was often photographed along the shore of Lake George, one of my old haunts.
Alert! The D&H juggernaut, Darren Hadley, has crashed through the New York Central/Delaware and Hudson diamonds just ahead of the NYC streamliner, fitz, closely behind. Darren crossed the 3200 post mark and I'm still not there. Together we are just a tiny bit above Boxcab's individual number of posts. Woefully behind Alan. Way to go, Darren. Why do your totals show different on every forum and mine show the same?????
*LOL* I took a siding at full steam and passed you while you sleeping in the cab! It might take more digging than I can do eright now on where The Laurentian might have found itself from time to time. In looking through my D&H Morning Sun Books there are more photos of D&H & NYC sharing eash others cars but I can't tell where they made these connections.
