It has come to my attention that Mikes Train House will be doing an O scale Centipede in plastic. I have contacted them and offered my assistance on this with the hopes of getting them to do a Seaboard version. I will let you guys know how this goes.

    Take care.

Way to go, Denis. I imagine quite a few people didn't even realize that Seaboard had centipedes. Now if they would do the SAL articulated steam!!

Several years ago Overland was going to do the SAL R class 2-6-6-4's. However, there were only 12 pre orders, one of which was mine and the project got cancelled. Man, that is some locomotive. They were later sold to the B&O and they ran them for many years. Also, the SAL had a small 2-8-8-2 that was a very handsome locomotive as well. The SAL was fond of running the R class locomotives on hot perishable trains and also on some passenger trains as well. On the Seaboard, they were the jack of all trades while they were around.

I didn't realize that SAL had any 2-8-8-2's. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of one, would you? SAL steam is pretty hard to find. Thanks!!

There are some nice sites on the web that deal with SAL steam. Let me go into my bookmarks when I get a chance to and get them posted. There is this one site that is put up by the folks of Durham County, NC that is simply outstanding, lots of nice SAL stuff there. Also, there have been several books that featured SAL steam as well. Princes SAL book deals extensively with SAL steam. The is a book but out by Durham Press that deals with SAL steam exclusively. Bill Griffins Route of Courteous Service deals with SAL steam in pretty good detail as well. Of course, the SAL Bible, Seaboard Air Line Railway Album by Forrest Beckum, Ronnie Tidwell and Langdum is outstanding and is perhaps the best of the best when it comes to SAL material. I have just about worn out my copy that I got back in 85 or 86. I would love to have another copy but this soft cover book goes for about $85.00 to $100.00 these days.

    Take care.

All in all, for the enterprising type, there is plenty of SAL steam information out there, you just need to dig it up.

    Denis,

Back to the centipedes. MTH did a Pennsy version a year or so ago. It's monster that, reportedly, will pull about anything you can put behind it. I saw one at Gandy Dancers. It's nice, but would be much better lettered for SAL ;)

Don't know how I missed that one. Oh well, either way, I am working with them on a SAL version.

I don't know when it will be out but yes, it will be much better looking than that PRR thing is.

Well since I really don't have room to model
in O scale, how 'bout a HO scale centipede?
Even if it were done in Pennsy colors it could always be repainted.
