It's been reported in the RR newsgroups (and confirmed elsewhere) that O. Winston Link,
arguably the greatest railroad photographer in America, has died at the age of 86.
Link was well-known for his photography, but even more so for his shots of Norfolk & Western steam in the 1950s. With the cooperation of the N&W, he captured beautiful
nighttime shots of steam locomotives, using ordinary people as a background.
    His reputation was well-known worldwide.

he was well known for maing the trains in his photos hide in the picture, but be the biggest thing subject wise. Fans of the N&W and everyone of use will miss him as a rail an and photographer, those were the days. :(

O Winston Link preserved an era in railroading for the N&W, and brought non-rail folks into the conversation because of the other subject matter, or the photo technique.

My wife isn't fond of trains, but she appreciated Link's work, and was the one who told me about his death.

It will be interesting to see how his negatives are treated posthumously.

I am saddened by Mr Link's passing.A lot of people seek his picture of the train going by the drive-in and the airplane appears to be crashing into the train. There was another railroad man of either Art or Photography fame that recently passed also. Seems I heard the Ex wife threatened to destroy all the negatives or art! Does anyone know to whom I speak of, and was there any works saved? Thanks, Allen Dale.
