BNSF still uses the former Oakway leasing SD60s that were built in the 1980s for leasing on BN. Is it true that BNSF now directly owns these engines and they are no longer lease units? These engines are now 20 years old, originally built in the fall of 1986, which is well within the lifespan of many EMD engines I suppose considering that 30-40 year old SD40/40-2s are still in freight service. They are all still in their original blue and white EMD scheme, including EMD demostrator #3.

I was on one the other night, seemed like a nice unit for the short distance I travled on it. Also I have had several enginers tell me they love them cause they will pull the world.

I seee these locos from time to time in NE New Mexico on the Raton Sub usually on empty grainies/The Worm. I usually see one a week, which usually comes up to 1/20 trains.

Actually they are now owned by EMD Leasing. Still on long term lease.
