wasn't sure this was the right place to post (have no real clue where) but anyhow....

anyone know if they still make any B-B geep's or these have long gone off makers' list and so found in the used markets alone these days?

just curious seeing that these seem like the perfect engine for beginners (alak private or shortline rr's that is)

    dgb.....

I'd say this is a good place to ask...
EMD builds what they call a GP20D, but it is like a GP38-2, with better emissions...

thanks hemiadda2d although I think that engine seem a bit more like a RS crossover...I mean....well isn't it obvious that it does seem close to the stillioutline of a RS anyhow?

    nice paint job thou :)

In teresting topic. I do notice thatNeither EMD/GM nor GE seem to make 4 axel diesels anymore, or not on the same scale as in the days of GP38's or B30's just 20 years ago.

I'm probably incorrect but the last GE 4-axle model was the B40-8? GP60's last from EMD?

The market seems to be the biggest, fanciest 6 axle locomotives, now.

I'm not in the 1:1 scale Locomotive sale business so I don't know the specifics of what's selling and what is not.

What with all of the used and rebuilt 4 axle units available, and with the locomotive manufacturers now able to pretty much make up for enough benefits of a 2-axle truck over a 3-axle truck, there really isn't much of a market for new 4-axle engines anymore.

Now, if alternate fuel or hybrid locos start becoming more needed (by economics or environmental requirements), that might make current 4-axle engines obsolete, openning up a market again.

I'll agree with Shooter. I've not heard of any Geeps being built. Which is not to say I'm correct.... But the second hand market seems to have plenty of decent quality stuff available right now.

Morrison-Knudsen makes some MK series B-B configuration units. MK 1200, MK1500, MK 2000. Odd looking and sounding units, but they appear to have great visibility from the cab. I believe they have a Caterpillar prime mover.

Railpower is building hybrid 4 axle switchers. Still looks like they're mostly based on rebuilt GP frames and trucks though. Does anybody make them from the ground up anymore?

I knew that Railpower had a couple of prototypes in service, but now looking at the site, it appears that they have over 70 engines on order. Pretty cool!

  10. As pointed out, EMD makes the GP20D and Railpower makes the Green Goat and Green Kid.

Also, doesn't GE still make the AMD103?

I think EMD stopped production on the F59PHI, but those passenger units were the last high horsepower 4 axle units.
