CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE OLDEST LOCOMOTIVE MODEL WAS ON CONRAIL AT THE TIME OF THE MERGER WITH NS AND CSX.
ahh yes it would be the GP38. 1966 probily may also be the SD40-2Rs Rebuilt from SD40 they may also date back to 1966. Anyone know when the Western Pacific U23B were built that the B30-7R were made from? ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! The oldest model was the EMD E8. The three Conrail units rostered at the time of the merger were built in 1951 and 1952. After that, its a toss-up between some of the early SW1500's and GP38's. Chris Toth

I think all of the SD40's were purged before the CSX/NS takeover, so that indeed leaves only the models Chris listed as "oldest survivors". Good work, Chris and a great question!
