Hi folks. A friend of mine just sent me a scanner with slide capability and I just located a bunch of my old slides, including a few boxes from the 1991 NS 25th Anniversary of Steam Operations in Chattanooga. Hopefully it'll work correctly and I can upload some photos really soon. As kids we rode every SR/NS excursion that came through town (Northern VA), including the 4501, 611, 1218, 610, etc. Can't wait to see it running again! :)

There are more threads and 4501 was mentioned. We still have over 20K more topics to sort out of the main pile, plus others mis-located after the glitch in late June. It's a very tedious process.

OK, that's a relief. I don't know what the world would be coming to if there weren't more 4501 fans here. :)

I'll look forward to your 4501 photos. I guess I am a steam snob, as that's all I fan. Living on the west coast, I have only seen the 4501 "in the flesh" at TVRM in 1993, and she was out of service. :tb-sad:

I rode behind 4501 back in the mid '70's; a Memphis to Corinth, MS excursion. My first steam ride. I might even have a few pictures. I hear 4501 has been out of commission for a while and I am not clear if she will ever run.

OK, found more of my 4501 slides and will be scanning and posting very soon. Also, for those of you wondering about this fine locomotive, it's in the shop now getting a complete overhaul and will pull excursions again soon! Check out this site for more details.

PW&NJ - Don't want to draw any hate mail, but ... . I was 11 when the 3 major railroads in my life brought the curtain down on steam. Did I like steam? Yeah, of course. I did watch SAL Q-3s' double headed on fruit blocks out of Florida. On the branch that paralleled my parents home for 450 ft I watched ACL "Copperheads" and 0-6-0s' work up and down the Croghans' branch. Southern wasn't local but their round house was in the middle of Charleston and I watched their Pacifics and Mikados being prepped for runs to Columbia. And, if you got on the "neck" going up Meeting St. Road or down King St Extension coming home - my dad would probably be pacing an ACL or Southern passenger, but guess what - I prefer diesels.

So please show your photos ' cause I'd rather look at RR photos than most - but don't be surprised that half a century plus later, a lot of hearts don't beat faster nbecause of #4501.

p.s. Rode behind 4501, 630, and any other engine of any description I could.

Nahhh, won't get any hate mail from me. I was just surprised that the Southern-specific forum didn't have more posts. I also prefer diesels (look on the N-scale forum for my latest projects if you have any doubts), but I grew up with the 4501 and the Southern Steam Excursion program so I've got a soft spot for it. I hope to get to scan them this weekend and will post for all to see. And dad had us on just about any and every excursion within 150 miles of home, including the 630, 610, 611, 1218, etc. Lots of great memories riding, chasing, photographing, watching and listening to all sorts of railroading, steam, diesel, or electric. :)
